Government Lingo Defined in Free KPMG Book June 4, 2008 (SmartPros) A free guide from KPMG LLP identifies the meaning of approximately 600 commonly used federal financial management and IT acronyms, regulations and terms. The KPMG Word Book is a public service by KPMG's federal practice. The 123-page spriral-bound booklet comes with a CD-ROM. The "living document" is divided into three sections: the meaning of acronyms in section one, Acronyms; the full names of pertinent regulations, Office of Management and Budget Circulars, and memoranda, guides, directives, etc., in section two, Regulations; and descriptions of context for each term in section three, Terms. Most entries are accompanied by a URL that leads readers to more information about the acronym. "We have provided financial management services to the government for a long time and saw a need for a book like this," said John Cherbini, the lead partner in KPMG’s federal advisory practice and a former federal official. "Before we embarked on this exercise we also spoke to a lot of people in government who told us it would be useful."
