IRS Looks to Hire Workers Over 50 Jan. 21, 2008 (SmartPros) The Internal Revenue Service is one of the first federal agencies to join AARP's National Employer Team, a program that connects 50+ workers with employers. National Employment Team employers undertake an application process to demonstrate their interest in hiring mature workers. AARP's Web site also provides information on the employers and the positions they have posted on their sites, along with links to each employer's AARP career page. The other federal agencies new to the program are the U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Disaster Assistance and the Peace Corps. The IRS has posted various full-time positions, SBA has posted seasonal positions to assist in disaster relief efforts, and the Peace Corps has posted full-time, part-time and volunteer positions supporting its volunteers around the world. Older Americans can go the AARP Web site to review job opportunities and apply online for free, regardless whether they are one of AARP's 40 million members. "Our National Employer Team members recognize the changes occurring in the labor force," said Deborah Russell, AARP's Director of Workforce Issues. "In the next three to five years, the federal government could potentially lose over a third of its workforce to retirement. Attracting 50+ workers is an excellent way to prepare for such an enormous shift." 2008 SmartPros Ltd. All rights reserved. |
