Tidying the Tax Code: Rangel and McCrery Introduce Technical Corrections Act of 2007

Nov. 19, 2007 (Associated Press) Last week Ways and Means Chairman Charles B. Rangel (D-NY) and Ranking Member Jim McCrery (R-LA) introduced H.R. 4159, the Technical Corrections Act of 2007, a housekeeping bill correcting unintended results from earlier legislation. Companion legislation, S.R. 2374, has been introduced in the Senate.

"The Technical Corrections Act of 2007 represents a small, but important step in the work we do here," Rangel and McCrery said when introducing this legislation. "This bill will provide clarity and guidance for many practitioners, as well as taxpayers who are impacted by these provisions.  We welcome comments from the interested public."

The provisions included in the bill are the results of a bipartisan and bicameral process that also drew on input from the Administration and the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation.

The Technical Corrections Act of 2007 makes certain technical corrections to provisions included in the Tax Relief and Health Care Act of 2006, the Pension Protection Act of 2006, the Tax Increase Prevention and Reconciliation Act of 2005, the Energy Policy Act of 2005, the Americans Jobs Creation Act of 2004, the Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003, the Economic Growth Tax relief Reconciliation Act of 2001, the Tax Relief Extension Act of 1999, and the Internal Revenue Service Restructuring and Reform Act of 1998.
