FASB Support Fees Total $22M in '06

June 4, 2007 (SmartPros) The Financial Accounting Standards Board received $22.4 million in accounting support fees in 2006, according to the board's annual report released last week.

That amount is 11 percent higher than the prior year, due to a higher level of recoverable expenses. The fees paid by approximately 8,800 public companies are mandated by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

According to the report, FASB expects support fees in 2007 to climb 1 percent to $22.6 percent.

The report outlines the financials and goals of FASB, its sister the Governmental Accounting Standards Board, and the Financial Accounting Foundation, which oversees the two.

The primary goals include codifying the non-governmental GAAP literature, XBRL-related activities to promote greater access to financial reporting information, and efforts to reduce financial reporting complexity.

The 53-page report is available at http://www.fasb.org/annualreport/FAF_2006_AR.pdf.
