Enron Musical Ready to Open Nov. 27, 2006 (SmartPros) In the land of Enron -- Houston, Texas, that is -- the Lambert Hall is set to open a social satire and comedy that tells the story of the collapse of the company through the eyes of an Ex-Enron employee. Enron—the Musical opens Dec. 1 and plays through Dec. 10. The musical features all the major Enron executives -- such as Ken Lay, Jeff Skilling, and Andrew Fastow -- played by six local singer/actors who each play multiple roles. The book and lyrics are by award-winning writer Mark F. Fraser from Houston. The musical is done in a cabaret style and the songs are parodies of familiar Broadway musical tunes. It covers the events leading to the corporation's downfall, such as the California energy crisis, the broadband fiasco, the Nigerian barge deal, and the off-book debt that finally sank the company. In describing three shorter version workshops of the musical performed last year at Stage's Repertory Theatre, SmartMoney magazine quoted Stage's artistic director, Rob Bundy: "The audiences said, 'It was fun to see the people who caused so much unhappiness so thoroughly lambasted.'" If you happen to be in the Houston area and want to give the musical a go, tickets are available online at http://www.enronthemusical.net/. 2006 SmartPros Ltd. All rights reserved. |
