Microsoft Office Accounting Beta Now Available

Sept. 12, 2006 (SmartPros) Microsoft Corp. has dropped "Small Business" from the product name of its accounting software, and last week released a public beta of the new version named "Office Accounting."

Office Accounting 2007 retains the bulk of the previous version's tools to manage inventory, print bills, pay bills and print invoices.

The new version builds on this with several new Web tools, including optional integration with eBay, PayPal, and credit advisory service Equifax. Another new feature of Office Accounting 2007 is the ability to customize the layout and labels on accounting forms.

Despite the name change, the target audience of the product remains the same -- for businesses with 25 employees or less.

The free download of the beta -- a 370MB file -- is available now at http://connect.microsoft.com/officeaccountingbeta
