Could You Blow the Whistle?

Aug. 30, 2005 Employees who have an established protocol to follow in order to report questionable accounting practices are more likely to "blow the whistle," a recent SmartPros Opinion Poll reveals.

Of the 98 respondents who answered the online survey in August 2005, 64 percent of employees with an established ethics/whistleblower program said they would "feel comfortable" reporting questionable accounting. Without such a program, only 43 percent would feel comfortable reporting questionable accounting.

Overall, only 51 percent said their employer has a process in a place (13 percent weren't sure), and only 54 percent would feel comfortable reporting questionable accounting.
