AICPA Taps Int'l Relations Director NEW YORK, June 9, 2005 (SmartPros) The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants said Gary M. Scopes has joined the Institute as director of international relations. He will serve as liaison for the AICPA's international activities and strategic initiatives. Prior to joining the AICPA, Scopes served as U.S. technical representative for the governing body of the International Federal of Accountants. Scopes has served as an executive director of the Institute of Management Accountants, Texas Society of CPAs and the Society of Louisiana CPAs. He served as president of the CPA Society Executives Association. In his new role, Scopes will report to James A. O'Malley, senior vice president of public affairs. Scopes previously consulted on international projects sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). He helped establish the auditing profession in several countries, implemented standards and ethics enforcement, and consulted on the development of a long range strategic plan for the CPA profession. Recently, Scopes managed a consulting practice that specializes in ethics program implementation and training in support of Sarbanes-Oxley requirements and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
