Accounting Blitz Kicks Off in Michigan SOUTHFIELD, Mich., April 28, 2004 (SmartPros) Midwest accounting firm The Rehmann Group, together with the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA) and Junior Achievement (JA), will kick off a day-long accounting blitz on May 4. An interactive program created by JA will be taught to students at Detroit-based Parkman Elementary by volunteers from Rehmann Group, MACPA and others. The purpose of the one-day blitz is to teach students the fundamentals of the free enterprise system. "This partnership allows our associates throughout Michigan to reach out to students and give back to the community," said Pam Nixon, human resource manager for Rehmann Group. "It's so important that children learn the basic concepts of business. Who better to lead this effort than CPAs with JA and community non-profits?" The normal JA program occurs one hour each week for about five weeks, but the Accounting Blitz combines all the materials into a one-day program. Students from kindergarten to fifth grade will learn: team building and why people must work together -- even in families; all about taxes and how they are used; where to save money; how to plan and build a city; how to write newspaper articles; where grocery store produce comes from; how to interview for a job; and how to conduct a stockholders' meeting. Over the years, Rehmann Group has reached more than 1,200 students throughout the state with the Accounting Blitz. This is the first year involving other community leaders. 2004 SmartPros Ltd.
