IRS Releases Renewal Schedule for Enrolled Agents

WASHINGTON, April 5, 2004 (SmartPros) The Internal Revenue Service announced the new enrollment schedule for enrolled agents (EAs) whose renewal had been delayed.

In November 2003, the IRS announced a delay in the renewal of enrollment for these EAs. The delay was "to ensure an orderly transition to rolling renewals."

Individuals enrolled to practice before the IRS who received their initial enrollment on or before November 1, 2003, and who have a Social Security Number that ends with the numbers 0, 1, 2 or 3 must apply for renewal of enrollment between June 1, 2004, and July 31, 2004.

Affected EAs must apply for renewal of enrollment by submitting to the IRS a completed Form 8554 (PDF), Application for Renewal of Enrollment to Practice Before the Internal Revenue Service. Enrollment cards will be issued shortly after applications for renewal of enrollment are processed by the Office of Professional Responsibility.

More information regarding the renewal process is available at http://www.irs.gov/taxpros/agents/article/0,,id=114324,00.html
