IRS Names New Director for Electronic Tax Administration WASHINGTON, Feb. 27, 2004 (SmartPros) The Internal Revenue Service announced the selection of Bert DuMars, an electronic commerce expert and veteran of the information technology industry, as director of the Electronic Tax Administration, which oversees the exchange of electronic information between the IRS and individual taxpayers, businesses and practitioners. As part of his new role at the IRS, DuMars will be responsible for the continued evolution of the IRS' e-file program. Nearly 53 million taxpayers used IRS e-file services in 2003, 13 percent more than the previous year. The IRS expects continued growth in e-filing as more taxpayers embrace the greater accuracy and faster refunds associated with e-file. DuMars comes to the IRS from Trend Micro, Inc., a $400-million company specializing in content security and anti-virus software. Previously, he served as manager of services marketing at Intel Corporation. The IRS also announced on Thursday the appointment of Nicholas J. DeNovio to the position of deputy chief counsel (technical) in the Office of Chief Counsel. He is responsible for overseeing the IRS published guidance program carried out by some 600 Counsel attorneys working with the Treasury Department's Office of Tax Policy. 2004 SmartPros Ltd.
