McCabe, a tax industry specialist and founder of Richmond, Virginia-based Peoples Income Tax, said NATBO "exists to further the interests and support the needs of owners of independent businesses engaged in income tax preparation and related products and services as their core business."

 

He added that "NATBO is not designed to compete with existing tax and accounting professional associations, but, rather, to satisfy unmet needs of independent tax business owners ... NATBO will enable its members to realize collective bargaining power, and will eventually provide national branding and marketing opportunities. But, marketing and discounts on tax industry products and services are not the main benefits of NATBO."

McCabe explained that NATBO will help its members to acquire, develop and integrate systematic business operating methods and best practices. NATBO will also educate its members in the benefits and use of such methods and practices; and will educate the general taxpaying public in the benefits to be derived from patronizing NATBO member firms.
