Grant Thornton Publishes Year-End Tax Planning Ideas

CHICAGO, Dec. 2, 2003 (SmartPros) Grant Thornton's just-released Year End Tax Guide for 2003, a free resource, covers a variety of personal and corporate tax planning opportunities, including those arising from the Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003 enacted this past spring.

"Taxpayers should evaluate their current tax situation and ask themselves whether or not they are taking advantage of all possible savings opportunities," said Dean Jorgensen, partner in charge of Grant Thornton's National Tax Office in Washington, D.C. "Recent changes in the tax law mean that taxpayers may qualify for additional credits and deductions that were previously unavailable."

Key planning areas covered in the tax guide include estimating quarterly tax payments, planning for the alternative minimum tax (AMT), managing capital gains and losses, exercising stock options, realizing the tax benefits of charitable giving, choosing and finding retirement plans, and protecting assets with proper estate planning.

The guide also includes a list of common taxpayer situations with suggested planning ideas and a calendar of 2004 tax deadlines. Request a free copy of the Year End Tax Guide at www.grantthornton.com/2003YETaxGuide.
