Former SEC Chairman and Enron Financial Executive to Discuss Impact of Whistleblower Law MAYNARD, Mass., Dec. 1, 2003 (SmartPros) Maynard, Mass.-based Shareholder.com will host a live Webcast with former SEC Chairman Harvey Pitt and former Enron financial executive Lynn Brewer on Wednesday, December 3. The Webcast, Whistleblower Hotlines: More Than A Mandate, is the first open forum on new federal legislation within Section 301 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, requiring public companies to document and protect reports by employees of accounting and auditing irregularities at their companies. Joining Pitt and Brewer are David Smith, Chairman of the American Society of Corporate Secretaries, and David Kaufman, regulatory and securities attorney for the Duane Morris law firm. The Moderator will be Stephen Schultz, Director of Governance Programs for Shareholder.com. In less than two months the new whistleblower mandate of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act takes effect. While the mandate is absolute, guidance on how to implement and manage a whistleblower hotline is vaguely-worded in Sarbanes-Oxley. The panel will discuss the subject in detail, including the inherent benefits of this capability and potential legal consequences of failing to implement a program effectively. Corporate executives, legal and financial professionals, and anyone interested in this subject can attend this free webcast which will include an online Q&A session for all attendees. To register, visit www.shareholder.com before December 3, 2003 or call 978-461-3153. 2003 SmartPros Ltd. All rights reserved. |
