WSJ: Arkansas Rulings May Hurt Reputation of PwC

Sept. 19, 2003 (FT World Media Abstracts via Comtex) Accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP faces a new challenge to shore up its image with the public.

An Arkansas judge fined PricewaterhouseCoopers $50,000 for destroying documents related to a lawsuit in which the company is accused of fraudulently overbilling clients.

PricewaterCoopers moved on Friday to avoid further sanctions, telling the court that "PwC has taken steps to preserve, collect and produce documents responsive to plaintiff's requests."

PricewaterhouseCoopers is the subject of a separate investigation by the Justice Department into the company's billing practices.
