AICPA Looks to Enhance Rather Than Ax Specialty Credentials Apr. 30, 2003 The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants' council has passed a resolution allowing the AICPA to explore possible strategies, including relationships with strategic partners, to "enhance" three specialty credentials -- Personal Financial Specialist (PFS), Certified Information Technology Professional (CITP), and the Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV). The original resolution approved by the AICPA board had discussed "possible exit strategies" for the PFS and CITP specialty credentials. The council also authorized the AICPA Board to present viable strategies on any or all of the specialty credentials to Council for its consideration no later than the Fall 2003 Council meeting. "After a thoughtful, professional debate, it was absolutely clear to me how committed this council is to taking a deliberative approach to addressing the needs of credential holders," said William Ezzell, Chairman, AICPA Board of Directors. The AICPA said it will provide ongoing updates about the status of PFS, CITP and ABV to credential holders throughout the process. |
