Job Seekers Spend 7 Hours Per Week Reviewing Recruitment Ads Apr. 23, 2003 The majority of job seekers recently surveyed say they respond to an average of 69 job listings posted either online or in newspapers and, on average, spend seven hours per week reviewing recruitment advertisements, according to a survey by The New York Times Job Market. Job seekers are equally divided in their responses to whether they spend more time searching online job boards (49%) versus print recruitment advertisements (49%). Of all resources available to them, job seekers say that they have responded to online job listings (60%) and print advertisements (59%) during their current job search.
In comparison, hiring managers say they typically use the following sources to fill positions from outside their organizations:
Hiring managers from organizations with fewer than 100 employees say they spend an average of three hours per week screening resumes, while those at companies with 100+ employees say they spend an average of six hours per week screening resumes.
Beta Research Corporation, on behalf of The New York Times Job Market, conducted telephone interviews with 250 hiring managers and 200 job seekers in the New York metropolitan area. Job seekers are defined as those who are currently looking or plan to look for a new job in the next six months. |
