Everson Is Approved as IRS Commissioner
Apr. 3, 2003
(Associated Press)
Mark Everson, President Bush's nominee to head the Internal Revenue Service, won formal approval from the Senate Finance Committee on Wednesday.
Everson's nomination to the five-year term as IRS commissioner
now goes to the full Senate for approval.
Everson testified last month that he would pursue tax evaders,
including the companies that market tax scams and tax avoidance
schemes. He also promised to continue technology upgrades and
reorganization plans begun by his predecessor.
Everson is a top manager at the White House Office of Management
and Budget. During former President Reagan's administration, he
worked in the Immigration and Naturalization Service, the Justice
Department and the U.S. Information Agency.
