The Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC) grant program, now entering its fifth year, helps organizations provide low-cost legal assistance to taxpayers to resolve tax disputes. In addition, LITCs inform and educate taxpayers for whom English is a second language regarding their tax rights and responsibilities.
The LITC program has grown from 127 clinics in 2002 to 138 for 2003. Clinics are located throughout the country in 48 states and the District of Columbia.
Many taxpayers are helped each year by the clinics. For many of these taxpayers, the clinics are a low-cost means of getting assistance when they have tax problems or are trying to comply with the tax laws.
