WSJ: Probe of Computer Associates Widens As Subpoenas Are Issued

May 17, 2002 (FT World Media Abstracts via Comtex) The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has extended its inquiry into the accounting practices of Computer Associates International Inc.

The New York-based software manufacturer admitted, in documents filed with the SEC, that the commission had issued subpoenas to third parties, although it refused to identify the
recipients.

An Ernst & Young spokesman, however, confirmed that the firm was subpoenaed by the SEC. Ernst & Young served as Computer Associates' auditor until June 1999. KPMG LLP, which currently audits Computer Associates' books, refused to reveal whether it had received a subpoena from SEC investigators.
