Computerized CPA Exam Update

April 24, 2002 (Partner's Report) NASBA's state boards have approved going forward with the AICPA-developed computer-based-testing services agreement for administering the CPA exam.

Forty-three state boards of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA; Nashville) voted yes, while just seven voted no (four boards did not participate in the vote). The agreement names the state boards as insured entities, gives them third-party beneficiary rights, and clarifies audit provisions.

Although NASBA, the AICPA, and Prometric (which will administer the CPA exams) are the parties to the agreement, each jurisdiction and NASBA will need to have a contract to accommodate specific state laws.
