Accounting Industry Top U.S. Employer BETHLEHEM, Penn., March 20, 2002 The accounting services industry ranks first among the top five employers with job offers for graduating college students, according to a recent salary survey.
Last year, consulting employers accounted for more job offers to graduating college students than any other type of employer, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Winter 2001 Salary Study, followed by engineering services (2nd) and accounting services (3rd). This year, NACE's 2002 salary survey reveals consulting employers rank 11th in terms of number of offers -- a huge plunge -- while accounting firms jumped to the top of the list as the top employer in 2002. Additionally, the 2002 average starting salary offer by accounting services is $39,872, a 3.3 percent increase over 2001, the study found. (Data are for bachelor's degree candidates and based on the Winter 2002 and 2001 Salary Survey reports.) 1.2 million college graduates will enter the workforce this year.
