'Tax Talk Today' Provides Payroll Tax Advice WASHINGTON, November 27, 2001 "Tax Talk Today," a monthly Webcast series sponsored in part by the Internal Revenue Service, announced its upcoming "change-of-pace program" that is geared to professionals and practitioners who advise clients in the preparation of payrolls. The November program, entitled "The Filing Season Before the Filing Season: How to Complete Forms W-2 and 1099," arrives as employers prepare to file required year-end payroll tax forms. By registering and logging on to www.TaxTalkToday.TV, practitioners will receive answers and advice from the IRS, tax practitioners, and the American Payroll Association on the most complex of payroll issues. The segment will air today at 2-3 p.m. ET. "Distinguishing between the different types of payments to report and determining where they should be reported can be a hurdle for any tax professional," said Les Witmer, the program's moderator, a 23-year veteran of the Internal Revenue Service, where he served as Acting Director of the Wage and Investment Division. "The purpose of this program is to eliminate any confusion surrounding the process, making it as seamless as possible for those in tax advisory roles." The program, which may be taken for CPE credit, will highlight changes the IRS has made in the 2001 Form W-2. Forms and tips can be downloaded from the Web site in advance. It is recommended that those joining the workshop download them before the program. Guests will include: Carole A. Barnette, Section Chief, Miscellaneous Tax Forms, Wage & Investment Division, IRS; Scott Mezistrano, Manager of Government Relations, American Payroll Association; Gerald P. Fournier, Tax Law Specialist Reviewer; and Emily Z. Rook, Director, Employment Tax Services, Circle Financial Services. Panelists will field questions from participants, who will be given the chance to call-in, or send their questions via fax or email. 2001 SmartPros Ltd. All rights reserved. |
