Traffic Spikes at Online Tax Sites NEW YORK, Jan. 30, 2001 (SmartPros) It looks like many Web surfers are getting a jump on the upcoming tax season, with some online sites already seeing spikes in traffic, according to an Internet ratings report by Nielsen//NetRatings. The Internet audience measurement service shows that traffic to Intuit's group of Web sites skyrocketed an overall 93 percent, while visits to the IRS Web site jumped 57 percent during the week ending Jan. 21. Traffic to financial software giant Intuit.com nearly doubled to 608,000 unique visitors during the week, compared to 315,000 for the previous week, Nielsen//NetRatings reported. Total unique visitors to Shopintuit.com jumped 71 percent to 217,000, while traffic to Turbotax.com grew 58 percent to 266,000 unique visitors. IRS.gov's traffic surged 57 percent to 551,000 unique visitors for the week. Surfers spent an average of 12 minutes at the site, with most visitors logging on to the download page for new tax forms, Nielsen//NetRatings said.
