IRS Gives PFA Program Green Light WASHINGTON, D.C., Jan. 23, 2001 (SmartPros) After a successful pilot last year, the Internal Revenue Service is making its Pre-Filing Agreement program, which allows taxpayers to request examination of specific issues relating to a tax return before it is filed, permanent. The program, which will be offered to mid- and large-size business (LMSB) taxpayers, not only received a great deal of input from taxpayers, but also conserved resources by more than 50 percent, the IRS stated. "Pre-Filing Agreements are a component of the LMSB issue management strategy to resolve disputes earlier with taxpayers and eliminate controversy sooner in the process," said Larry Langdon, commissioner of the LMSB division. Both large- and mid-size business taxpayers under the jurisdiction of LMSB are able to participate in the program, the IRS said. Some international issues will be considered. Additional information on the program, including user fees, may be found in Revenue Procedure 2001-22 on the IRS Web site at www.irs.gov. -- SmartPros News Staff Send comments to information@smartpros.com. 2001, Smartpros Ltd.
