Linda S. Lubitz of The Lubitz Financial Group in Miami Florida along with Norman Boone, owner of Boone Financial Advisors, Inc., an independent Registered Investment Advisor based in San Francisco that provides financial services to individuals and businesses, will make a presentation at the conference titled "Prudent Investing and the Investment Policy statement." The purpose of the interactive session is to help financial planners understand the investment policy statement (IPS).

An IPS, explained Boone, "is a central document that identifies all the elements to how money will be managed and how decisions will be made regarding the management of money. It guides the financial advisor to make objective rather than emotional decisions for a client."

An IPS may include a description of the client and the money involved, the investor's objectives, tax situation, time frame, and limits, as well as the implementation technique and investment methodology.

According to Boone, an IPS not only serves the client's best interest, it also serves the advisor.

"In writing and signing an IPS that has covered all the bases, you are legally protecting yourself, as long as you fulfill what is outlined in the investment agreement, from lawsuits," he said.

Boone added that an IPS "makes you stand out from the competition because most advisors don't know how to create a good one. An IPS allows you to document the process in an attractive, thorough yet clear manner so the client understands it well."

The presentation in San Diego will outline in detail the steps necessary to develop a good IPS that demonstrates prudent investing for clients.
