The auditing tool, which was engineered and hosted by Intacct and employs content developed by Deloitte & Touche, is designed to integrate with Intacct's accounting system to streamline the preparation of audit workpapers and to allow more efficient file interrogation capabilities.

According to the firm, the online tool is aimed at enabling solo practitioners and CPAs in smaller firms who work with small- and medium-sized enterprises to use sophisticated auditing techniques on their clients' most current data, from any location, according to the company. Intacct said it plans to make the auditing tool available on a subscription basis.

A part of Intacct's e-practice offering, the auditing tool includes content such as audit programs, questionnaires, and customized, automated workpapers developed by Deloitte & Touche. Audit functions include file interrogation and workpaper archiving and retrieval.

Intacct and Deloitte & Touche said they anticipate continued development of the auditing tool to address users' changing needs and preferences. Since the service is accessed on the Web, system enhancements and updates can be made available to users as soon as they are released.

"Audits and reviews performed through Intacct's Web-based service provide the potential for greater cost effectiveness for both the auditor and the client," said John Fogarty, director of Assurance Services at Deloitte & Touche. "We believe that this e-business approach signals a significant new chapter in the assurance service field."
