EDGAR Online Creates Repository for XBRL Financial Statements SOUTH NORWALK, Conn., Dec. 7, 2000 (SmartPros) EDGAR Online Inc., a Web-based provider of business and financial information derived from Securities and Exchange Commission data, said it will establish the first public repository for financial statements in eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) format. The repository, announced at the XBRL committee meeting in Washington, D.C. this week, will serve as a single source for professionals to find company financials prepared and published in this format, the company said. XBRL, a newly developed business-specific XML financial reporting system, is expected to become the standard for reporting public company financial information in the near future. The company has hired Liv A. Watson, co-chair of the XBRL Education and Communication Committee, as director to establish and manage the repository. In her new position, Watson will develop short and long-term strategies for implementing XBRL capabilities and functionality into the EDGAR Online Web site and financial information delivery value chain. Prior to joining EDGAR Online, Watson, a specialist in information systems project strategies and management and information technology consulting, served as managing partner of Gaither Technologies.
