IRS Names Criminal Investigation Division Counsel WASHINGTON, D.C., Dec. 7, 2000 (SmartPros) The Internal Revenue Service has announced a Criminal Investigation Division counsel. Nancy J. Jardini has been appointed to serve as the division counsel/associate chief counsel for the Criminal Tax Division, the IRS stated. In her new role, Jardini will direct the more than 70 attorneys nationwide who are assigned to the Criminal Tax Division of the Office of Chief Counsel. She will provide expert legal advice to criminal investigation special agents during all stages of their investigations, the IRS said. She will also oversee policy and procedure guidance for the Office of Chief Counsel and the IRS Criminal Investigation Division in all matters related to criminal tax. In 1999, Jardini agreed to act as deputy special counsel to the William Webster Commission, where she oversaw the staff and day-to-day operations of the Commission and assisted in the preparation of the study, known as the Webster Commission Report. The Webster Commission Report resulted in fundamental procedural and organizational changes within the IRS Criminal Investigation Division and led to the reorganization of the Criminal Tax Division of the Office of Chief Counsel. -- SmartPros News Staff Send comments to information@smartpros.com. 2000, Smartpros Ltd.
