PwC Launches Online VAT Information Service NEW YORK, Dec. 7, 2000 (SmartPros) PricewaterhouseCoopers has rolled out an online service aimed at helping U.S. companies grappling with the Value Added Tax (VAT) as they trade with Europe and other countries with similar sales taxes. The Big Five firm has launched GlobalVatOnLine, at www.globalvatonline.com, a Web-based information and advice service that includes daily news summaries on the latest VAT developments, information on worldwide VAT events and access to over 1,000 advisers from the PricewaterhouseCoopers' global VAT team. GlobalVatOnline also features a subscription-based service for finance directors and tax professionals called GlobeSearch, which will carry extensive details on VAT rules and rates in over 70 countries, as well as links to VAT authority Websites. "We believe it will become an essential tool for companies trading overseas who have to contend with increasingly complex VAT regimes," said Mark Friedlich, chief operating officer of GlobalVatOnLine. "Over 120 countries now have a VAT system and the number continues to rise." "VAT regimes in the world are very different and highly complex," he added. "Even in Europe, where VAT is well-established, they are years away from harmonized rules." The subscription-based news service, NewsSearch, provides coverage of important VAT developments and access to a database of global news items with reports and analyses of key developments, PwC said. Individual annual subscriptions to GlobalVatOnLine cost $2,000. Corporate subscriptions (allowing unlimited use by any number of employees globally) are $10,000 per year. -- SmartPros News Staff Send comments to information@smartpros.com. 2000, Smartpros Ltd.
