H&R Block Beefs Up Kiplinger TaxCut

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Dec. 6, 2000 (SmartPros) The latest version of H&R Block's Kiplinger TaxCut is hitting the shelves for the upcoming tax season.

Under an alliance with Microsoft, H&R Block is offering every TaxCut customer a free copy of Microsoft Money (Standard edition) after a mail-in rebate. The two entities joined forces after Microsoft discontinued its TaxSaver tax software earlier this year, said H&R Block.

TaxCut 2000 imports data from last year's TaxSaver, as well as all versions of Microsoft Money and other tax and financial programs. In addition, TaxCut exports information to Money to help users manage their finances and taxes year-round, said H&R Block.

New features in this year's TaxCut include: "My Taxes," which is a pre-interview that walks users through the preparation process, and "Where Am I," which is a navigation tool that allows users to find where they are in the program.

All forms can be printed and mailed to the Internal Revenue Service or state revenue departments, said H&R Block. TaxCut also offers state programs for every state with an income tax, as well as state electronic filing for 26 states.

As for refunds, users can choose to have a check mailed, have the fund direct-deposited into their bank accounts, or receive a tax refund advance of up to $5,000 deposited directly into their bank accounts, the company stated.

TaxCut costs $9.95. TaxCut Deluxe -- with multimedia videos, free electronic filing and free state tax software -- costs $19.95. And for entrepreneurs and small business owners, there is TaxCut for Home & Business, which features everything necessary to complete Schedule C 1040 returns, corporate and partnership returns, and fiduciary and non-profit returns for $49.95.

TaxCut products can be purchased wherever software is sold or can be downloaded from the TaxCut Web site at www.taxcut.com
