Cognitor Raises Too Many Questions
Re: AICPA's Plan for Cognitor Designation Forges Ahead
From Pat Wilson, CPA, PatWilson@Compuserve.com

I've been following the Cognitor issue and early on really thought it to be a slam dunk but, as you know there has been considerable controversy and questioning.  In retrospect I believe the questioning was/is justified and at this point I'm not sure the matter will pass muster ... it may make it through Council but we're going to have to do a lot better communicating if we are to have a chance passing it by two-thirds of our membership.

Comments I'm hearing from non-Council members are:

  • We've spent many many years building the CPA credential so why should we dilute it?
  • Cognitor has a very negative meaning in Spanish ... if you guys studied possible names, why in the h___ did you pick this?
  • I hear that the Brits have dropped out of the project, and that Australia is having second thoughts, so why continue?
  • I am the equivalent of a Cognitor but what use is another title to me?

And these comments are before they've seen any numbers relating to cost ... they may blow-up when they realize how much has been spent already.
