City of Ottawa Taps Deloitte Consulting and NIC to Build eGovernment Portal OTTAWA, Canada, Dec. 2, 2000 (SmartPros) The City of Ottawa has tapped the consultancy arm of Big Five firm Deloitte & Touche to develop its eGovernment portal. Deloitte Consulting will team with the Canadian subsidiary of alliance partner NIC to build and manage the portal, which will offer online municipal services, such as event calendars, permit filing, facility reservations, city press releases, licensing, and parking ticket payments. The services will also eventually be available through library workstations and over the phone using Interactive Voice Response technology, Deloitte Consulting said. The portal is expected to launch by January 2001. Deloitte Consulting and NIC will provide the services and infrastructure required to develop and maintain the eGovernment portal, while the City of Ottawa will retain ownership over and control of all data and portal operations. The majority of the information and services on the portal will be free to the public, while some services will involve a convenience fee that will be used to fund the eGovernment portal. The new City of Ottawa, an amalgamation of 11 municipalities and the Region of Ottawa-Carleton, will open its doors to residents, businesses, taxpayers and visitors on Jan. 1, 2001. In August, Deloitte Consulting and NIC announced a global strategic alliance to jointly deliver end-to-end eGovernment solutions that will help governments operate more efficiently and be more responsive to citizen and business needs. The new City of Ottawa enterprise portal will be the alliance's first international eGovernment project. -- SmartPros News Staff Send comments to information@smartpros.com. 2000, Smartpros Ltd.
