Former White House Counsel to Serve as SEC's Counsel to Chairman


Nov. 28, 2000 (SmartPros) A former special assistant counsel to the President of the United States will serve as counsel to Arthur Levitt, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission.



David Fielder, 35, has been named counsel to the chairman and will advise Levitt on investment management and corporation finance issues, the SEC said. He succeeds Estee Levine who was recently named director of the Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs.

Fielder joined the Commission's staff in February of 1997 as senior counsel in the Division of Enforcement. In February of 1999 he moved to the Division of Investment Management. Prior to joining the Commission, Fielder worked as a litigation associate at Washington, D.C.-based Kellogg, Huber, Hansen, Todd, and Evans. He also served at the White House as special assistant counsel to the President, said SEC.
