ICAEW Council Approves Chartered Add-Ons LONDON, Nov. 21, 2000 (AccountancyMagazine.com) The Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales has approved further changes to its ethical guidelines to allow chartered accountant firms the option to include other chartered bodies titles, such as chartered tax advisers, in their titles. But it warns that it will be up to individual firms to ensure that they meet the criteria of the chartered bodies involved. The move was approved at November's Council meeting and follows Council's agreement in August of last year to allow management consultants, business advisers and tax consultants to be added to the description of chartered accountant. "It's just part of the ongoing review of regulations to see where we can liberalize things without reducing standards," said head of the Institute's professional standards policy Tony Bromell. "If the firm is eligible to use both titles, and obviously they have to satisfy bodies that they can do that, then they can indeed call themselves chartered accountants, chartered certified accountants and chartered tax advisers."
