POB Elects New Board Member

STAMFORD, Conn., Nov. 15, 2000 (SmartPros) A partner of Los Angeles-based Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP will serve on the Public Oversight Board of the American Institute of CPAs' Securities and Exchange Commission Practice Section.

On Jan. 1, 2001, Aulana L. Peters will succeed former Secretary of Defense Melvin R. Laird, who will retire after serving on the board since 1984. Laird will have served on the POB longer than any current or prior Board member, the POB stated.

Peters, who has experience in general and commercial litigation, served as a commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission from 1984 to 1988.

Peters serves on the Board of Directors for a handful of companies and is a frequent lecturer and author on securities regulation and the financial services industry. She has also served on the Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council to the Financial Accounting Standards Board and on the Board of Directors for the AICPA, according to the POB.

The POB, established in 1977, is an autonomous body of five members who oversee the self-regulatory programs of the SEC Practice Division of the AICPA.
