SEC Seeks Accounting Fellows Applicants

WASHINGTON, D.C., Oct. 31, 2000 (SmartPros) The Securities and Exchange Commission says it is looking for a couple of good accountants.

The SEC's Office of the Chief Accountant is accepting applications for two Professional Accounting Fellow positions in the Office of the Chief Accountant.

During the two-year term, which begins in June 2001, Fellows work directly with the Chief Accountant, and are involved in the study and development of rule proposals under the Federal securities laws, liaison with professional accounting standard-setting bodies, and consultation with registrants on accounting and reporting matters, the SEC said.

Applicants should have nine to 12 years of experience in public accounting or its equivalent, with at least three to six years as a manager, and should be thoroughly familiar with the technical accounting and auditing literature as well as with current issues confronting the profession.

Application requirements include a ten to 15 page essay, a resume, at least two letters of recommendation from non-relatives, and Standard Form 171, "Personal Qualification Statement" or Form OF-612, "Optional Application for Federal Employment" or any other written format that identifies the announcement number, title, series, and grade of the job sought, according to the SEC.

Applications and essays are due on or before Dec. 15, 2000, and should be submitted to the Chief Accountant of the Securities and Exchange Commission.
