Accpac Forms Alliance With IBM, Adds Managed Ops Hosting Option

NEW YORK, Oct. 28, 2000 (SmartPros) Business management and e-business communications software vendor Accpac International Inc., announced an alliance with IBM and the addition of a managed operations hosting option to its application service providers partners program.

Accpac, a division of Computer Associates' interBiz group, announced this week at the Internet World 2000 Conference here, that it has been validated as IBM ServerProven. The ServerProven program identifies business solutions that have been validated to run on IBM eServer xSeries and Netfinity servers.

IBM has validated Accpac's Corporate Series, Small Business Series, Discovery Series, eAdvantage Suite, Executive Series, Director Series, Pro Series, and VisionPoint, the firm said.

The Pleasanton, Calif.-based software vendor also announced the addition of a managed operations alternative to its ASP Partner Program.

Beginning next week, Accpac's business management solutions, purchased outright or already licensed, can be hosted by multi-tier ASPs authorized as Accpac hosting partners.

"We want to offer the most flexible application services in the industry, and believe that the managed operations service of a multi-tier ASP offers a viable and resource-efficient alternative to having to host all elements of your business systems with an ASP," said David M. Hood, president and chief executive of Accpac.

Under the managed operations or managed applications scenario, customers who already own a license to use Accpac software can outsource the management of those applications to a hosting company that runs the applications in their data center for a monthly service fee. The customer only pays for the managed services and not the software.

Mareechi.com will begin providing global co-location hosting services for new or existing owners of Accpac Windows solutions at the end of October, Accpac said.

"Accpac solutions are the focal point of our strategy to provide small and mid-sized businesses with a viable end-to-end solution," said Lance Black, chief executive officer, Mareechi.com. "Delivering these solutions as an ASP allows our clients to take full advantage of best-of breed technology and fully integrated business solutions without sizeable up front costs that keep many smaller growing companies out of the picture."
