Intellinex Aims to Be Premier E-Learning Provider NEW YORK, Oct. 5, 2000 (SmartPros) Intellinex, a new e-learning operating company created by Ernst & Young, may not be the first company to conquer online training, but its size and Big Five heritage sets it apart from the rest, according to officials. "With our launch, Intellinex becomes one of the largest providers of e-learning," said Michael Powers, chairman and chief executive of Intellinex. "Intellinex is in the business of putting learning back into e-learning." Wednesday marked the launch of Intellinex, a one-stop provider of corporate learning solutions that are faster, lower in cost, more flexible and more convenient than traditional classroom training, the company said. Intellinex specializes in designing, developing, delivering and implementing customized learning systems that can help companies and their employees. The company has five major locations: its New York City headquarters and offices in Cambridge, Mass.; Cleveland, Ohio; Irving, Texas; and McLean, Va. "The differentiating factor for us is that we will be front-end solution providers," said Powers. With more than 400 employees under its wing, Intellinex may be well on its way to becoming an e-learning powerhouse, and is already servicing several big-name clients such as Cisco Systems and Coca-Cola. According to Merrill Lynch, the e-learning marketplace is turning white-hot and it estimates that corporations could spend more than $11 billion for online training by 2003, a tenfold increase from $1.1 billion last year. Richard S. Bobrow, chief executive for E&Y-Americas, said that Intellinex has allowed E&Y "to achieve learning that will be significant to our people" and has reduced training costs by as much as 30 percent. Bobrow said that E&Y will continue to use Intellinex for internal training through a third-party arrangement. However, the road ahead for Intellinex does have a few bumps. For instance, the company must work on broadening the scope of services, investing in more content and establishing a brand image, admits Powers. In addition, Powers predicts that consolidation will soon hit the e-learning marketplace -- but he is ready. "We are focusing on organic growth as soon as possible and looking at alliances and possible acquisitions to keep up," said Powers. -- By Antoinette Alexander Send comments to information@smartpros.com 2000, Smartpros Ltd.
