GE, PricewaterhouseCoopers Team Up to Build Business-to-Business Integration Tools

GAITHERSBURG, Md., Sept. 29, 2000 (SmartPros) GE Global Exchange Services, the business-to-business electronic commerce arm of General Electric Co., has teamed up with accounting powerhouse PricewaterhouseCoopers, to collaborate on software development and systems integration.

GXS will work with PwC to build standardized tools called intelligent application adapters that will enable customers to connect packaged software applications such as Enterprise Resource Planning and Customer Relationship Management to GXS's enterprise application integration product suite.

The intelligent application adapters are easy to install and will be less expensive to maintain than custom integration solutions, GE said.

The pair plans to explore joint marketing opportunities.

"Both companies recognize that a complete e-business solution requires many different components," said PwC partner Charles Prow. "Working closely with GXS will provide opportunities to combine our collective scale, expertise and core competencies to create the critical integration solutions customers demand."

"Our collaboration with PricewaterhouseCoopers . . . means that customers will experience quicker system implementation and lower costs than are typically associated with custom integration work," said Steve Scala, GXS vice president of integration solutions. "We look forward to the possibility of expanding our relationship with PricewaterhouseCoopers in the near future."

Formed in March, GXS is part of General Electric subsidiary GE Information Services Inc. GXS operates one of the largest B2B e-commerce networks in the world, with more than 100,000 trading partners. The network's 1 billion annual transactions account for more than $1 trillion in goods and services.
