Letters to the Editor Re: AICPA, KPMG Bash SEC Proposal From John L. Rodi, M.S., CPA, Assistant Professor of Accounting at California State University in Los Angeles Given the recent sub Rosa conversion of not-for-profit assets to a for profit business by the AICPA is there any doubt in anyone’s mind that they have sold out the profession? Therefore, what does it matter to them who is or is not independent. It is ludicrous to think that an auditor can obtain consulting fees from a client "at rates" and do an audit for below cost. The firms in favor of no change to the current rules obviously have not read the part of SAS that says: both in fact and in appearance. Spare me. -- Sept. 23, 2000
