CCH Jostles for Position in Online Tax Prep RIVERWOODS, Ill., Sept 12, 2000 (SmartPros) Striving to stay on the cutting edge of online tax prep, CCH, a provider of tax information and software, said it has beefed up its online tax preparation program CompleteTax. With CompleteTax, CCH is pitted against scores of other online tax prep programs including H&R Block's online tax program based on Block's TaxCut software; eTaxsimple by Randolph, N.J.-based TaxSimple; and H.D. Vest Online, from Irving, Texas-based H.D. Vest, a provider of financial services. CompleteTax, which was launched by CCH for the 2000 tax season, is now Web-enabled allowing consumers to complete their entire return online without having to download any software to their own computers, the company said. In addition, CompleteTax users who expect to receive a federal income refund may apply online for a refund anticipation loan. They will receive the online approval and receive the refund within a few days of their electronic returns being accepted by the Internal Revenue Service. CompleteTax can prepare simple to complex returns and targets small business owners and consumers.
