H&R Block Canada Names New President

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Sept. 2, 2000 (SmartPros) Tax powerhouse H&R Block has named a new president for its Canadian division.

Donald A. Cameron, who previously served as chairman and president of Lawton's Drug Stores Limited and Sobey's Pharmacy Limited, will oversee the operations of Block's 1,100 offices nationwide, the company said. Cameron also served as vice president for Mac's Convenience Stores from 1986 to 1990.

Earlier this week, the Canadian unit of H&R Block announced that it signed a deal with Toronto-based tax prep software provider Inisoft Corp., to offer electronic filing throughout Canada. Under the agreement, Block also gains marketing rights for a Block-branded version of Inisoft's Initax online tax prep solution.

H&R Block Canada, headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, employs about 8,000 tax and financial services professionals and has been offering tax preparation services since 1964.
