AICPA Splits Up Peck's Duties

NEW YORK, July 20, 2000 (SmartPros) In light of Charles M. Peck's impending departure from the American Institute of CPAs to join a dot.com company, the institute has split up Peck's duties among two current staff members, an AICPA spokesman said.

Peck's duties as senior vice president of marketing, product and organizational development at the AICPA have been split between Chuck Cohn and Mary Schantz, spokesman Joel Allegreti said. Cohn, who served as director of marketing and product management, has been promoted to vice president of marketing and sales. Schantz, who serves as vice president of product development, has also been put in charge of group study and course development, Allegreti said.

In yet another example of an increasing trend in the accounting industry, Peck is leaving the institute to take the helm at a dot.com. Joining the ranks of other accounting industry executives who have jumped ship for the lure of the Internet, such as George Shaheen, who left his post as chief executive of Andersen Consulting to join online grocer Webvan, Peck will join theglobe.com, an online community network and service provider, as chief executive Aug. 1.

Ironically, Peck is leaving the AICPA just as the organization is planning to take the Internet plunge itself with its planned cpa2biz.com portal. Peck's tenure at the institute was marked by bringing continuing professional education to profitability, initating several programs, including ISO 9001 certification, and an increase in membership, Allegreti added.

"theglobe.com has the brand equity to extend its community network capabilities worldwide and possesses a potential that has yet to be realized," said Peck. "I'm extremely excited to spearhead the efforts that Todd and Steph began six years ago and together with the extraordinary efforts of the TGLO team, contribute my experience at increasing value to the shareholders of theglobe.com."
